Genesis 1:1 בְּרֵאשִׁית The Hebrew Bible begins with a prepositional phrase. Here, the preposition בְּ is prefixed to the fs noun רֵאשִׁית (in [the] beginning). This construction is indefinite, though it is normally translated with the definite article. בָּרָא This Qal Perfect 3ms verb is easy to identify. Remember that all III-א and III-ה verbs exhibit the Qamets-Qamets vowel pattern in the Perfect 3ms. This is also the lexical form (14.5.1; 14.7.1).
